Choosing a water tank is a long-term investment, and with many different tank designs and manufacturers available, it can be difficult to know what sets one tank apart from another.

Clark Tanks has been manufacturing polyethylene products in Australia since 1997, with water tanks designed and manufactured for Australian residential, rural and commercial applications.

The Clark Tanks Difference

Clark Tanks water tanks incorporate a number of design and manufacturing features aimed at strength, durability and long-term performance:

  • Food-grade polyethylene – manufactured from BPA-free, food-grade polyethylene suitable for the storage of drinking water.
  • Ribbed profile for added strength – the ribbed design used across the round tank range provides additional structural strength.
  • One-piece construction – round tanks are rotationally moulded as a single piece, without vertical wall seams or a separately fitted roof.
  • Reinforced critical areas – additional material is incorporated around areas such as the tank base to improve strength and structural integrity.
  • 31 standard colours – a broad colour range provides options to complement homes, sheds, farms and other surroundings.
  • Direct delivery – Clark Tanks operates its own delivery network across large areas of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and the ACT.

Clark Tanks Certifications

Clark Tanks manufactures a range of polyethylene water tanks certified to AS/NZS 4766:2020, the Australian and New Zealand standard for polyethylene storage tanks for water and chemicals.

Tank Quality Assurance

Clark Tanks operates an ISO 9001:2015 certified Quality Management System, with quality-control procedures incorporated throughout the manufacturing process.

Quality checks include:

  • Measurement of tank wall thickness at critical locations
  • Impact testing to assess material and manufacturing quality
  • Visual inspection for manufacturing defects or abnormalities

Clark Tanks also provides long manufacturer warranties on its water tank range, including a 25-year manufacturer’s warranty on qualifying round water tanks and a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty on slimline water tanks, subject to the manufacturer’s warranty terms and conditions.

Is Your Tank Really AS/NZS 4766 Certified?

AS/NZS 4766 sets requirements for the design, manufacture and testing of polyethylene storage tanks. Certification involves more than simply using suitable polyethylene material; requirements also apply to tank construction, testing, identification and the information supplied with the tank.

Clark Tanks highlights several features associated with compliant polyethylene water tanks:

  • One-piece tank construction without wall seams
  • Minimum corner-radius requirements around the base of the tank
  • Installation instructions supplied with the tank
  • Individual tank identification and serial numbering

Commitment to Quality Standards

Clark Tanks undertakes a series of quality checks on its water tanks before they leave the factory. These checks are designed to verify the thickness and strength of the polyethylene and identify any visible manufacturing defects.

Ultrasonic Thickness Testing

Ultrasonic measuring equipment is used to check polyethylene thickness at multiple locations around the tank, including areas of the roof, walls and base. Measurements taken around the tank also help confirm that the wall thickness remains consistent throughout the moulding.

Impact Testing

Impact testing is used to assess the strength of the polyethylene and confirm that it has been correctly processed during manufacture. Samples taken from the tank are conditioned at low temperatures before being subjected to an impact test. A sample that cracks or is pierced fails the test.

Visual Inspection

The interior and exterior of each tank are visually inspected by Clark Tanks’ manufacturing staff for defects or abnormalities before the tank leaves the factory.
